Conceived as a metaphor for the destructive capabilities of nuclear weapons, the Godzilla mythos surpassed its film persona in terms of production value and good story-telling. While various incarnations of the movie monster merely lumbers along a formulaic storyline, the idea itself transcends language and culture into a good argument for nuclear disarmament, and later, for better stewardship of the planet.
