Australia is fairly proactive when it comes to conservation. Subsidised rainwater tanks were introduced in Brisbane where I live during prolonged drought about 4 years ago. Govt rebates are offered for installation of solar power systems which feed electricity back into the grid, lowering our bills. they supposedly pay for themselves over a 15 year period. Carbon tax being introduced in July, we're all pretty sceptical about that one.
