Silence; there's none to be had.

Medical clinic? No. Dentist office? Nope. Library? Uh-uh. Shopping mall? Of course not. On hold? Never. Everywhere I go, there is a TV playing to no one in particular, a radio tuned to the local blare, piped music and general static in every conceivable public place - even in some parking lots - and nowhere is there that golden sound I crave. Silence. Is it a commodity that has turned from golden to no longer available? It's making me crazy ...
