A Six-Word Memoir® is the story of your life—some part of it or all of it—told in exactly six words.

In classrooms and boardrooms, churches and synagogues, veteran's groups and across the dinner table, Six-Word Memoirs have become a powerful tool to catalyze conversation, spark imagination or simply break the ice.

Here on Six Words, we offer a simple platform to share the short, sharp story of your life, as well as provide daily prompts to share your six-word takes on the topics of our times.

More than half a million short stories have been shared here. Read more about six.

So give six a try—and make your words count.

Lizzie's beauty triumphs over internet ugliness.

by NumbrOneAunt on February 24, 2013   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

lizzie velasquez is a college student and motivational speaker who was born with an extremely rare condition (i believe the name is neonatal progeria - only three people in the world including lizzie have it) that means she can't gain weight. i somehow stumbled across an internet contest for "the ugliest woman in the world" (i have no idea how because it's certainly not the kind of thing i'd look for) and saw lizzie. i did a search specifically for her and found her website. her personality is so vivid and bright and positive that i honestly forgot about her physical appearance. i truly feel far sorrier for the people who would coceive of and spread such a contest than i do for lizzie - that mentality is an ugly you can't fix. lizzie has made an "it gets better" video about bullying. i hope you find it inspiring too:
