A Six-Word Memoir® is the story of your life—some part of it or all of it—told in exactly six words.

In classrooms and boardrooms, churches and synagogues, veteran's groups and across the dinner table, Six-Word Memoirs have become a powerful tool to catalyze conversation, spark imagination or simply break the ice.

Here on Six Words, we offer a simple platform to share the short, sharp story of your life, as well as provide daily prompts to share your six-word takes on the topics of our times.

More than half a million short stories have been shared here. Read more about six.

So give six a try—and make your words count.

I asked her, I asked him

by EnMasse on March 31, 2013   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

still no answers for the mystified
I went about my business, I was here might as well
asking for blessings for those I knew
asking for blessings for those dear
giving thanks for everything I had
giving thanks for all the bad I didn’t have
then again came the matter about you
the source of the rain on this glorious cloudless day
the fountain of the ooze, the spigot for the tears
the spear piercing my heart, dicing my soul
because I sat alone, because you were not here
no answer came while I sat in stagnant stillness
tears miraculously dried
blood inconspicuously scabbed
the patch placed on my heart proved an excellent device
bringing a patient back from the brink, revived
a secret whispered undisguised
successful surgery performed in the wink of an eye
they held my hands in the coolness of the space
soft light stealing through colored windowpanes
washing sterile walls with warmer hues
then they left me to divine my own way out
an unbeliever stealthy leaving incognito through the milling crowds
hoarding unanswered questions, they deftly left stuck in my head
I was no less perplexed, and out of breath.
