140 fifth graders, bike 200 miles!

by jl333 on March 31, 2013   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

This is a story that should be told. A local YMCA, aimed to teach kids that they can accomplish anything with planning and perseverance. Even though the families are from San Diego, the trek began in Yuma, Arizona. The kids and their parents rode more than 200 miles and rolled into San Diego yesterday. All the participants dipped their bikes into the Pacific Ocean once they arrived yesterday. I'm thinking, this is something to be added to my bucket list, because if 9 and 10 year old kids can do it...then I guess there really isn't a reason I couldn't do it. Along the way, the cyclists camped at schools and RV campgrounds. With my bike tires recently aired up, let the training begin. In all, the trek took the kids one week to complete. Pretty inspiring.
