Here on Six Words, we offer a simple platform to share the short, sharp story of your life, as well as provide daily prompts to share your six-word takes on the topics of our times.

Do you reuse your birthday candles?

by Wench on April 26, 2013   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

Last night, after my brother-in-law blew out the candles on his birthday cake, my mother-in-law said, "You know, my mom used to save the candles and reuse them. She would say, 'Don't throw those away!' I guess when you have a big family you have to do that."

I looked at the twenty-three candles that had been lit for less than a minute as she took each one and wrapped them in a paper towel to throw away and didn't know what to say, so I just smiled. We always reused birthday candles. It seems silly and wasteful not to.

Is this normal for other people? I've never heard of doing this before!
