A Six-Word Memoir® is the story of your life—some part of it or all of it—told in exactly six words.

In classrooms and boardrooms, churches and synagogues, veteran's groups and across the dinner table, Six-Word Memoirs have become a powerful tool to catalyze conversation, spark imagination or simply break the ice.

Here on Six Words, we offer a simple platform to share the short, sharp story of your life, as well as provide daily prompts to share your six-word takes on the topics of our times.

More than half a million short stories have been shared here. Read more about six.

So give six a try—and make your words count.

House burned, but friend's keeping cool.

She's amazing. She left her emotionally abusive husband about a month ago, even though she's in school and things are tough financially. She simply couldn't have her kids around him any more, especially after a particularly nasty tantrum her husband threw that frightened her son. Things were going fine until last Wednesday, when a clothes rack collapsed, dumping its contents onto the floor heater grate. They have next to nothing left.

Friends are gathering stuff for them, and I can already tell that she's going to come through this stronger than ever. Jen and I visited her this past Saturday. We hugged, gawked at the damage to the house and hugged some more. She laughed, and I got a great pic of her brilliant smile - complete with soot smudges on her face.

Of the people I know, the ones who touch me the most deeply are those with perspective.
