Here on Six Words, we offer a simple platform to share the short, sharp story of your life, as well as provide daily prompts to share your six-word takes on the topics of our times.

A new penpal: Sent with love!

by BronzeArkansan on March 25, 2014   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

-So over spring break, my youngest cousin Jonathan called my mom to ask for some pictures of our grandfather for a school project on family trees and ancestry. It was absolutely precious!! He is about 9 or 10, and I haven't seen him in over 6 years or so.
-My mother is one of 6, so all of the nieces & nephews fall in a wide age range (9 to 38) and live in 5 different states (Florida, Arizona, Tennessee, Colorado, and of course Arkansas).
-Suffice to say, I only grew up with a handful of my cousins. I didn't get to know the older ones until the last year or so, which is a shame because they are really great people. I thought back to the last time I saw Jonathan, and I just couldn't shake it. I don't want to miss out on him growing up, and I want him to know his family.
-I sent him a letter last week, and he got it today. My uncle says he is super excited and really wants to write me back!!! I am delighted, and I hope this is something we can do often. Nothing makes a lonely college kid happier than a piece of snail mail.
