He called me Goddess. Then, Gladys.

He was young, right out of university, eager and adorable. If I'd met him now, I'd think, Bradley Cooper. It was to be his first teaching job. I was the school librarian in a brand new school and he needed resources to teach grade ten English.

One day, before the rest of the teaching staff had come in, he walked into the library, sat on the corner of my desk and told me what he planned to teach. He was excited. He got me excited. Together, we found what he needed, wanted, and ordered what wasn't already there. From that day forward, he referred to me as "goddess".

I later became Gladys, code for Goddess of the Library.

He's currently teaching in Rio de Janeiro. I still hear from him. He still calls me Gladys.
