A Six-Word Memoir® is the story of your life—some part of it or all of it—told in exactly six words.

In classrooms and boardrooms, churches and synagogues, veteran's groups and across the dinner table, Six-Word Memoirs have become a powerful tool to catalyze conversation, spark imagination or simply break the ice.

Here on Six Words, we offer a simple platform to share the short, sharp story of your life, as well as provide daily prompts to share your six-word takes on the topics of our times.

More than half a million short stories have been shared here. Read more about six.

So give six a try—and make your words count.

Turtle totem knows much about caring

by Aegyptica on July 1, 2014   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

I have both Cherokee and Sioux in my family blood line. I was given my Cherokee name Smiling Turtle by a beloved Cherokee Elder here in Tennessee. She told me that she could tell there was much turtle medicine within me. The Turtle Totem in Cherokee sits in the middle of the Medicine wheel. It represents nuturing, caring, the mother of us all. Indeed it fitted my personality well as that I held one of the most special but difficult of occupations at that time. I was a hospice RN. I have a very caring, calming presence when working with my patients and their families. I am the nurturer. I have a heart of gold and smile that shines. Thus my name Smiling Turtle.
