A Six-Word Memoir® is the story of your life—some part of it or all of it—told in exactly six words.

In classrooms and boardrooms, churches and synagogues, veteran's groups and across the dinner table, Six-Word Memoirs have become a powerful tool to catalyze conversation, spark imagination or simply break the ice.

Here on Six Words, we offer a simple platform to share the short, sharp story of your life, as well as provide daily prompts to share your six-word takes on the topics of our times.

More than half a million short stories have been shared here. Read more about six.

So give six a try—and make your words count.

SixContest #31: Six-Word Novels to Honor Ernest Hemingway

For this SixContest, we are going back to the man who started it all—Hemingway! Literary legend has it Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write a novel in just six words. He wrote: “For sale: Baby shoes, never worn.” In honor of the great wordsmith’s birthday (July 21st) and the anniversary of his death (July 2nd), we invite you to take the same test. Your Six Words can include a backstory (we love reading them), but please submit only one entry per comment. Let’s get those literary minds rolling!

This SixContest runs through Friday, 7/18 (two weeks!) until 3:00PM ET. Submit your entries in the comments below or on our social media pages (remember to tag @sixwords): facebook.com/sixwordmemoirs | twitter.com/sixwords | sixwordmemoirs.tumblr.com
