Divorced: I got custody of bacon.

by enginethatcould on July 31, 2014   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

All the bacon themed sixes of late got me thinking about this. My ex had converted to Judaism not long before we met. I grew up in a very Jewish, but very secular home - no dietary restrictions whatsoever, lots of bacon!! My ex, as part of his conversion, decided to follow a pork-free diet. I had no problem giving up pork (didn't miss anything much, really, except the bacon. Well, ok, and Prosciutto. And dry cured salami!!)

Oddly enough, throughout the 10 or so years I knew him, I swear I would have felt more guilty for eating pork than for actual cheating, the extra-marital kind!

On the day the divorce was finalized, I had a great big salami sandwich.... and am now on a strict no-more-bacon-guilt regimen.

He got the house, the cars, the furniture, and all that other stuff that was so important to him.... but I got my bacon back!

Mmmmmm..... bacon (cue Homer Simpson drool)
