A Six-Word Memoir® is the story of your life—some part of it or all of it—told in exactly six words.

In classrooms and boardrooms, churches and synagogues, veteran's groups and across the dinner table, Six-Word Memoirs have become a powerful tool to catalyze conversation, spark imagination or simply break the ice.

Here on Six Words, we offer a simple platform to share the short, sharp story of your life, as well as provide daily prompts to share your six-word takes on the topics of our times.

More than half a million short stories have been shared here. Read more about six.

So give six a try—and make your words count.

Only successful Internet date: my dog.

by Martha_Garvey on September 15, 2009   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

I've always been an early adopter of technology, but I was surprised as anyone when while my husband and I were considering adopting a dog a virtual volunteer at a shelter in Jersey City presented me with a link to a picture and a description of a dog on petfinder.com. This was Faith, described as "calm and intelligent." And "overweight." As with a lot of Internet dates I've been on, Faith turned out to be two out of the three--overweight and intelligent. Nevertheless: I think I actually loved Faith before I met her. After a short series of walks and a single sleepover, Reader, my husband and I: we married her.
