About Me

If you were to throw up your hands in exasperation and yell \"it's the story of my life,\" what would you be talking about?
The year or so I lived in my van with my Rottweiler and housecat in search of the \"great adventure.\" Tim Russert's book, \"Wisdom of Our Fathers\" had just come out and my essay was on page 141 and the reason, Tim told Beliefnet.com, that he decided to include a chapter on forgiveness in the book. Wow! While Tim was talking about his book and my story on MSNBC and CNBC, I was living in a van in a Wal-Mart parking lot and working at Camping World and trying to launch a career as a freelance photographer. It was the best year and the worst year or so of my life. I won a laptop computer from Yahoo Tech, used it to win a journalism award from the Society of Professional Journalists and then this year to win an all-expense paid trip to the Global TED conference in England with Daniel Pink (http://johnnybunko.com). And - I'm writing my book, \"Staying Hungry,\" on the same laptop. What a wild ride - from \"homeless vandweller\" living down by the river (not) eating government cheese in Denver\" in 2006 and 2007 to the TED conference in England with Daniel Pink in 2009. Now THAT'S a story! ROTFLMAO!!! And it's true! You can't make that stuff up!

Besides SMITH, I read stories at:
Triiibes.com

In bed I like to read:
Fantasy, adventure, blogs and business books. If it's a good read, I'm there.

My favorite story of all time is:
Man of La Mancha - because we all tilt at windmills, fall in love with what seems to be the perfect love and end up - when all is said and done, back in the company of our true friends.

Right now, I'm reading:
Blue Sweater by Jacqueline Novogratz (http://www.thebluesweater.com/). It is the most awesome wonderful story of her time in micro-financing and the founding of The Acumen Fund. Just incredible read!! Highly reccomend it.
