New SixContest: Predictions for the next decade! What’s your six-word hunch for the 2020s?

Buried his accent, buried his identity.

My husband immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland when he was 11. From his teachers to his fellow students, he was ridiculed for his accent. He learned quite early on that if he was to fit in, he would have to mask his accent and adopt the American lexicon that was so foreign to him. During math class he had to learn the hard way that naught was zero. During lunch recess, football was soccer. During every day life, his mum was mom.
He already felt like an alien and he grew tired of answering the every day question posed by his peers, " Why do you talk so funny?"
