Why I Love Where I Live

As summer travels come to a close and we begin to make the great journey home, we can’t help feeling a little relieved. We may have had some wonderful adventures (and the occasional mishap), but after awhile, we began to understand the feeling behind Dorothy’s famous mantra: "There's no place like home."

Fellow community member tagishcharley provided the inspiration behind SixContest #115, when he suggested we take a month to celebrate where we live. For many people, home has many different meanings. Is it the setting? The familiar streets, rolling hills, or quiet, seaside town. Is it the structure itself, with a porch swing and soft bed inside? Or is it the people? The neighbor who always waves in the morning, your favorite bartender at the local joint, and your best friend living just minutes away. Whatever the place you live means to you, tell us why it’s so special—and as usual, keep it to six!

For this contest, in addition to hearing your backstories, we also want to see your photos. So besides awarding our favorite six-word story our shiny new keychain, we’re giving away two extra prizes: the book of your choice to the Sixer with the best backstory, and another one to the Sixer with the best photo (selected by tagishcharley, himself). Be sure to submit your entry as a six and include the link to your backstory or photo in the comments. And please post only one entry per comment.
