Writer and sometime Sixer Abby Ellin (https://www.sixwordmemoirs.com/profile/?uid=1856) has written a darkly (and very funny) book about deception, “Duped: Double Lives, False Identities and the Con Man I Almost Married." It’s based on the GUY she was engaged to who turned out to be a pathological liar and ultimately went to jail, and includes deception stories of many other people. She talks about a range of people with double lives, including double agent Kim Philby, flying hero (and Nazi sympathizer) Charles Lindbergh, and animal rights activist Peter Young. But the point of the book is that we really don’t know the people we surround ourselves with, even if we think we do.
With that thought in mind, we’d like to hear your Six Words on Deception—romantic or otherwise. Share your story by Feb. 18, 2018 in the comments below Abby will send the top three "duped" stories an autographed copies of her book.
