I came into this world on a day when my Dad was on his way to place a big bet on a hot horse. The horse did win. He never placed the bet. To this day, we try not to bring it up. I always imagined that he had a suitcase full of money to place down in some shady back room in Brooklyn to a guy named Frankie the Fox or something like that. The way my Dad laments over this lost bet, the pay out must have been huge as well as the lay out.
