My key will eventually become theirs.

I wear a silver skeleton key hanging on a chain around my neck. It didn't start as symbolic. I just thought it was beautiful. My little girls love it. They touch it for luck. They hold it in their hands when they are worried and scared. Their tiny fingers seem to keep it polished, it has never tarnished. They refer to it as my \"key to the city.\" when it is not visable they ask where it is. It has become an extension of me.

What they don't realize is that there are two of them, and two identical keys. I wear them equally, keeping the other hidden from them. And when my time on earth is done, each of them will have their own \"key to the city,\" and the key to my heart.
