My son is on a path that I wouldn't have chosen for him; I know how talented he is and how much more he’s capable of. Although he doesn’t really like his job, he’s staying there because he makes decent money. I am proud of his work ethic and the fact that he’s dependable.
His artistic ability first showed up in high school and we were told he could have a career as an artist if he so chose. Thus far, he has not gone in that direction. For a long while, I suggested different education options, areas of study, entry-level job leads in art-related fields, etc. I've known for some time that I need to let go and allow him to find his own way. I will always be available if he wants my help, but for now I'll just watch from a safe distance. And have my fingers crossed.
