When my children were small and I was a single parent, we often made a meal of all the good things of summer...fruits and vegetables...that you could eat with your fingers. Cucumbers, tomatoes, and carrots with a creamy dip; peaches, plums, watermelon, berries of all kinds; and some crusty bread with Havarti or Gouda, just to say we'd had a bit of protein. They loved it. I miss being able to get away with serving \"appetizers\" and \"peasant food\" for a meal.
