In the King James Bible, Song of Solomon 2:15 reads, \"Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.\"

In late September, according to Hal Borland, \"Wild grapes ripen. We pick, simmer, and make jelly. Birds love the grapes. So do foxes, and 'possums.\"
