Even broke people need nights out.

Someone sent me birthday money last week with strict instructions to use it for myself. I didn't, I put it in the Rent envelope. I would really love to go out, I figured, but times are tough. Fortunately, Nathaniel took it back out of the envelope. So last Tuesday, when we arrived at my parent's house on my birthday for a multi-day Thanksgiving celebration, he said he was taking me out. My favorite restaurant is two blocks from my parent's house and it was a beautiful night. Walking over, baby-free, we laughed at how we used to go on dates at least twice a week. Some things are easier without kids, for sure. At the restaurant, I kept wanting to check my phone to see if Constantine was ok but I resisted the urge. It was nice, just for an hour and a half, to forget about everything that's happening right now, all the uncertainty and stress, and just be on a date. It reminded us that we're still human.
