Meaning it's time for them to grow up and take responsibility. You can only guide them so far. This memoir came to mind when one kid forgot to take his jacket, even though I handed it to him. And the other boy forgot to take his water to soccer, even though I got his water all ready with ice, etc. Seriously, I can't wipe your butts forever.
