The Shadow is Jung's term for the dark part of everyone's psyche, the dark parts of the collective unconscious that we have to accept and integrate or be consumed by. I had a mental image that even archetypes within the collective unconscious evolve as humanity changes, and I chose to phrase it in terms of The Shadow, because it implies a measure of development and growth even in the dark parts of ourselves.
