Amidst a whirlwind of tough calls and bad news, my husband decided to give me a back massage one night in our last apartment. He took off his wedding ring and placed it on the side table by our bed so that lotion wouldn't get caught underneath it.

The next day was trash day. And somehow his wedding ring found its way out with the eggshells and dirty diapers.

It's been almost four months, now. We finally decided that our financial woes can suck it up on this one - he needs a wedding ring. At the same jewelry store on Saturday he picked out the exact same band. As they polished it for him, we remembered - Valentine's Day is just around the corner. We don't usually celebrate, at least not with anything fancy or extravagant. This year became an inadvertent exception.
