Twice last night he woke up because he'd kicked his covers off and was cold. Why do you do that, little man??? He gets them tangled and then he can't figure out how to pull them up over himself so he sits there sadly calling for me to fix it.
When I hear his voice, it's the most bizarre combination of things. I hear it instantly, but my mind has to fight through the layers of sleep and dreams and rest to force itself to wake up. Usually I start with my eyes. My eyes pop open while the rest of my body feels still pinned to the bed. Slowly, I find my breath, my fingers, my limbs, and then, in what feels like eternity but is only a few seconds, I roll to the side and climb out of bed to tuck him back in.
