The lesson I gleaned from a late night viewing of the 1928 silent film, \"White Shadows in the South Seas\". The Tahitian natives were doing pretty good for themselves. Nice weather. Nice scenery. Plentiful food. No sexual hangups. Then they got \"discovered\". And the discoverers discovered the Tahitians had pearls in abundance. Money. Goodbye paradise.
