I find it fascinating that the modern definition is that a peeper is a pervert, when the term comes from the story of Lady Godiva, who rode through the streets of Coventry naked to convince her husband to lower taxes. The townsfolk shuttered their windows...except for Tom the tailor, who took a peek at the naked lady proudly parading her assets down the main street.
