My aunt posted a picture on Facebook today of my maternal grandmother standing beside the mother of her daughter-in-law. Grandma and Yia Yia. The picture instantly called to mind a scene from my youth. The family was going to the local Morrison's Cafeteria for lunch, and I watched in an amused sort of embarrassment as the two women raced to the register- bumping and jostling one another, white patent leather grandmother purses swinging dangerously- so one could beat the other and pay for everyone's meal.

A picture truly is worth a thousand words.
