Two blocks and a world away.

The building that collapsed in Philadelphia is two blocks from my office. So many heroes. The people walking by or working near by who ran into the collapsed building before the first responders, without thought to their own safety and pulled the first half dozen people out. The first responders who got to the scene in three minutes, literally three minutes. The search and rescue teams that worked tirelessly through the night in the hope that there were still people to rescue and not just bodies to recover. The team that, even as I type, is still working to carefully clear the remaining 20% of the building in the hope that they find 'a cavity' in which the still unaccounted for will somehow, miraculously, survived. And a few villeins. The people who complained about the traffic instead of thanking G-d that they were not in that building and that our first responders were working so hard to get to the people still trapped and prevent anyone else from be in harm's way. The people looking for some one to blame, what is the procedure for inspecting a demolition site (the city) who was the inspector (the man) did he have a history of problems (the reputation.) Yes, we can and should learn from this and I am sure we will, but for now let's just pray for those are yet to be found.
