July 16th 2001 there was a knock on the door, and my mom was asleep so I answered it. The man looked at me and asked if my parents were home, and I said just a second and I'd go wake her up, he said don't bother and did it himself, telling me and my siblings to sit on the couch. I peeked out the window before I sat and saw more than a dozen cars out front and a lot of men with guns.
Less than a few minutes later the man came out with my mom in hand, and she got to me, knelt down and said \"take care of your brother and sister, you're in charge now\" stood up, looked at us and walked away.
Next another man came in, this time in a suit. He explained to me that we were going to be taken to stay with some nice people and that we needed to get some of our stuff. I stood up, packed for the 3 of us and handed the man the bags. Not once saying a word.
That night we went to our first foster home. The first of many to come.
That night was also the last time I spoke for more than a year.
