He ate the whole burnt dinner.

I cooked dinner on our first date. I made deep-fried ravioli as an appetizer. I had never made it before, but I figured it couldn't be too difficult. I was quite pleased with myself, arranged the golden squares on a platter, with a tiny dish of homemade spaghetti sauce.

He bit into one, hesitated for just a fraction, then continued to eat. I took a bite of mine and was mortified! I thought that the pasta would cook in the oil. I didn’t know it had to be boiled first, then breaded, then deep-fried.

He smiled when he saw my expression. I couldn’t stop myself. My bottom lip, trembled and I started to cry.

“It’s fine!” he insisted. “They taste awesome. See?” And (God bless him) that man ate every single chewy deep-fried ravioli on that platter.

Twelve years later, we’re still married.
