Discovered butterflies need more than airholes.

Many unfortunate creatures died in my old pickle jar, the one sporting puncture holes through its lid, made by a screwdriver. I always gave them what I thought they needed. Grass, or dead leaves, or insects captured especially for their delectation. And, of course, air. Always air.

But time after time, often in the accusatory early morning light, I learned that we rarely know what another creature needs.
