I'm going to really like Fridays.

After I retired, I gave myself a year to see how my life would shake out. I've happily done my share of volunteering over the years and have been on more committees than I care to count. I've always had more things to do than time. Giving myself the gift of time and a chance to breathe was a precious gift. Thank you, me.

A neighbour of mine, who is an elementary school teacher, was telling me about a favourite project of hers. She pairs adults with her grade three students so that each student has a reading buddy. Her adult buddies return year after year, but this year, she found herself short by a few. She didn't even have to ask. I knew it would be a good fit.

We meet in the library once a week to read, play a game, talk, and socialize, individually with our buddies.

We met for the first time two weeks ago. As we parted, my buddy said, I'm going to really like Fridays. I thought the same thing.
