But Americans usually go bananas over how I speak. A bit of Emma Watson (Harry Potter's Hermione), mixed with a spoonful of sugar perhaps?! Nowhere near Hugh Grant but possibly something of Mrs Peel (from the original Avengers, for our younger readers!)
When I lived in the States, people would say to me on an almost daily basis (yes, literally) 'I could listen to you read the phonebook'. (Is that something people ever do, read the phonebook out loud?!)
I still cannot fathom why Americans like our British accents so much, especially as there's so much celebrating attached to becoming independent from us!! My typical response is something in the 'thank you but I've done nothing to deserve it' department. I realise this speaks volumes about my ability to just shut up and take a compliment ;)
