New Year's Eve 2013. Homemade pizza, Redbox movies, a stack of fresh picks from the library and a bottle of mellow red Santa left me under the tree. My company is a brilliant little imp of a child, she read ten chapters in her book hanging onto the grocery store cart as we scouted out the pizza ingredients.
She knows that today is New Year's Eve but at six years old she is perfectly content to celebrate well before midnight. When I say content, I mean she has no clue really that the tradition calls for you to stay awake until the Cinderella hour. Chances are she will be curled up in her new "heater blanket" and fast asleep before ten.
I do not have words to describe how much I treasure this moment. I know the years in front of us will include many early teen pouty nights when she is not old enough to be out and then many nights where I will be pouty because she is "old enough" and I want her tucked in and safe. This is good. Right now.
Happy New Year my Smith friends. I believe 2014 will bring joy, love and prosperity to us all!!!!
