ARABS knew earth round before Galileo?!

According to Joseph Gollumb, a writer for the New York Evening Post in 1919: 'In the century after Mohammed, the Arabs comprised the greatest empire in the history of the world.* They knew that the earth was round way before Galileo.'

*The Arab empire was destroyed by the Turks in the 15th century.
