I'm selfishly sending toys to Kenya.

by Wench on March 22, 2013   |  FacebooktwitterTumblr

After checking out the link in illuminatrix's favorite toy question, I told my mom about it.

"I saw this photo project today where someone took pictures of little children in different countries with their most prized toys. There was a little girl in Italy with all these dolls and a beautiful dress, and then there was this little boy in Kenya with just this old, dirty teddy bear. When I saw him, I thought 'I could send that boy a teddy bear, I have teddy bears he could have.' It got me thinking, when Constantine outgrows his toys, I should just send them to Kenya."

"Yeah," my mom said, "because the world is going to end. So you won't even need to think about grandchildren." You're right, how selfish of me not to think of the potential children 35 years in my future who will surely have no toys unless I keep Constantine's in the garage until then. How totally thoughtless to send them to children who have absolutely nothing, instead.

Ladies and Gentlemen, my mother.
