When I was a child traveling in the 40s and 50s the radio reception was sporatic and poor in parts of the country. Reading made me car sick, but out of the car window I could see worlds of wonders. Cliffs and creeks, mountains, endless plains dotted with farm house, cattle, horses, pigs, buffalo, and yes, the deer and the antelope played. They would race the car in some grand chase only they understood. I would see wild turkeys come out of hiding from the forest in the evening just before we stopped for the night. How fortunate was I to see the USA in those years, when roadside attractions were the Snake-a-torium, or the last water for 150 miles. Glorious days for travel.
