If I was out and about when I was single, and I met someone who I wasn't necessarily attracted to but felt was a nice person, I'd slap on an English accent and tell them my name was Vanessa. When they would ask me what part of England, I would tell them I was from a little village called Birkenshire (inspired by a guy wearing Birkenstocks). Pretty sure there really isn't such a place, but we were living in a time when smart phones weren't even a gleam in Steve Jobs' eye, so fact checking wasn't an issue. Not to mention booze was involved so the guys would take me at my word. If they would ask me how long I would be in the U.S. for I would tell them my flight home was early the next day. "Such a shame I won't be seeing you again.", I'd say in the Queen's english.
Worked every time.
The guy wouldn't feel like he was rejected, and I could leave the bar unscathed knowing we'd never see each other again.
Win-win.
