"Bottomless Pockets Filled With Endless Opportunities"* (a six-word slam report)

You know you’re at a six-word slam in New York City when one of the six-word memoirs is, “There is no place like Barneys.”

And you know you’re at one of Allison Hemming’s Hired Guns events when around 100 people pack a groovy loft space in midtown Manhattan to schmooze, slam, and hear about the making of the six-word memoir book between sips of the good stuff. From the profound (“For sale: baby shoes, perfectly worn.”) to the playful (“Serial dumper, J-Dater, therapist’s pay dirt”), once again, the six-word memoirists were an inspired bunch of copilots in our experiment in intimate, crowdsourced storytelling.

Congrats to Elaine Grogan-Luttrull, an accountant by day who found out about the slam that morning via Daily Candy, wrote her six-word memoir (“Confidence feigned, successes gained, enthusiasm waned”) during lunch, and took home the slam’s grand prize, an iPod Nano. Thanks to Allison, Jessica, Bart, Patrick (who checked people in wearing the sticker pictured above; he has a big pile of stories ahead of him), and the whole Hired Guns crew.

Today, we’ve populated the “featured six-word memoir” box found on the six-word memoir project home with memoirs from members of the Hired Guns community. Below are a few postcards from the slam.
