“Former third wheel. Now a unicycle.” The Best Six-Word Memoirs of the Week

My former high school classmate, Christine O’Donnell, singlehandedly shook up the political establishment, my neighborhood was summarily pummeled by a tornado, and I ended the week with an explosively fun birthday. And still: it wasn’t all about me, it was about you, the amazing SMITH community of memoirists who share the stories of your life six words at a time. Here are six six-worders we love from the week ending September 17. Click on each author’s name to check out more memoirs.

Best Imagery: “Waiting for the train and you.” —Arru1
Best Narrative Arc: “My faded scars show I’ve won!” —Eskemo
Most Specific: “I dunk Oreos for sixteen seconds.” —Scarecrow
Most in Need of a Backstory “I just got caught smiling uncontrollably.” —Sabel
Best Wordplay: “Former third wheel. Now a unicycle.” —Jude, from SMITHTeens.
Most Intense: “Pain inflicted physically, only numbs temporarily.” —OhMissVicki, from our new six-word project, Six Words on Pain & Hope, with the nonprofit, To Write Love on Her Arms.
