So 11 Six-Word prompts later — led by Michael Ian Black, Rob Delaney, Katie Couric, Todd English, Tim Gunn, Tim Ferriss, AJ Jacobs &Unscrolled, Piper Kerman, Jason Biggs & cast fromOrange Is the New Black, Baratunde R. Thurston,David Plotz & Slate, and To Write Love On Her Arms. — the Six-Word Festival on Twitter was a smash. The #SixWords tag trended nearly nonstop for 3 days and at one point we had 4,000+ tweets coming in an hour. Ricky Gervais popped in and tweeted on our “Six Words That Mean You’re Lying” prompt (“Now, I’m not a racist but…”#sixlies), Judah Friedlander and many others from comedy and TVland tweeted in six, including a great guy from Sesame Street. Dove soap and a few other brands got in the six mix; and the inimitable @the_ironsheik made quite a splash, too.
We did it in a way that was true to the spirit of the Six-Word story form we started nearly sevens years ago on Twitter: as an organic, populist, addictive, delicious three days of storytelling. And the short, sharp stories continue 24-7 at SixWordMemoirs.com (and @sixwords, of course).
Huge thanks to interns Danielle Zolit, Daniel Goldman, and Ashley Ahn, new Six team member, Jonathan Zipper, my partner Bob Mate, as well our secret weapon in the south, Shauna Healy Greene.
