Six Questions for the Six-Word Festival: George Takei

George TakeiDay One of the Six-Word Festival on Twitter on June 4 welcomes the other-worldly prompt, “Write a #SciFi Story in #SixWords.” Led by the talented and humorous George Takei of Star Trek fame and the star of Broadway’s upcoming Allegiance, we learned a little more about what keeps him on the social media forefront in our Six Questions for the Six-Word Festival.

How has your writing and/or brain changed because of Twitter?
Getting your message across succinctly. I’ve learned to kill characters like George R. R. Martin.

What do you find appealing about the Six-Word format?
Six words is a luxury. I had five words for my acceptance speech at the Webby’s: “Shatner, eat your heart out!”

Can you share a trick, in six words or more, to beat writer’s block?
1. Like sex, it will come soon.
2. Don’t hit computers, hit the bars.
3. When in doubt, just ask Brad.

Who’s capturing your attention on Twitter lately?
Patrick Stewart’s bromance with Ian McKellan!

What’s your current project or obsession?
My musical Allegiance is my current project/obsession.  ALLEGIANCE is an epic story of love, family and heroism during the Japanese American internment. Starring Lea Salonga, Telly Leung and myself in a groundbreaking, original musical about a family’s love, loss, and heroism during the Japanese American Internment.

Finally, George Takei, what’s your Six-Word Memoir?
Share your story, change the world.
