Six Words From Students Across YouTube’s Universe

The Six-Word Memoir has proved to be an unexpectedly elegant and accessible tool for self-expression and personal storytelling. The form is now bigger than Hemingway, and certainly bigger than SMITH. From a reverend in North Carolina who preached six-word prayers, to a midwestern book blogger who created a six-word memoir meme, which still races across hundreds of thousands of personal blogs, six-word memoirs have taken on a life beyond our wildest expectations. Who knew?

On YouTube, I stumbled upon this project from teens from the Sprout Creek Farm in Poughkeepsie, NY. (In my day, we just milked cows.) A random YouTube search for “six-word memoirs” yields so many unexpected six-word memoir projects that we decided to create a Six-Word Playlist on SMITH so you can see what’s happening on farms, classrooms, and places we never knew six words would go. This 18-second video from a woman named missxloverly is just one example of a simple, sensational six-word memoir video.
