The Top Six-Word Predictions for 2018

Who could have predicted the surprises and insanity that was the year 2017? Not us. Still, as we rolled into 2018, for SixContest#108, we challenged you try your hand at predicting what could happen over the next twelve months. Naturally, we heard predictions of romance (“Strangers. Friends. Best friends. Lovers. Strangers.”—Ravineek), hopeful proclamations of personal goals (“I will conquer my ‘what ifs.'” —debielynne) and reflections on the state of the world (“Hope will expand, multiply, and unite.” —Trix95). You dropped some undeniable insights (“We’ll all be a year older.” —LisaK) and humorous personal truths (“BanjoDan will get fatter and balder.” —BanjoDan. And while counting on students to share their stories is always a good bet, we couldn’t have predicted that Laura Dowd’s 8th Grade Language Arts class at Mills Park Middle School would fill their wall with a blast of six-word predictions.  Finally, who can argue with community member JAD‘s crystal ball: “Six Words will capture more hearts.”

6.  “Written correspondence becomes a hipster trend.”  — S.ScottWalker

5. “Different people will still think differently.” —David Dial

4. “Walls, maybe. But also unexpected doors.” —hopesprings

3. “Will finish my book in 2018.” —@DavidCicotello

2. “Empathy will outpace apathy. I hope.”–@pbsharkey

And finally, the top prediction:

1. “Daydreaming voted as nation’s #1 preoccupation.” —CanadaGoose

Congratulations to CanadaGoose, who will receive a copy of our 2018 daily calendar: Secrets to Happiness in Six Words. Thanks to everyone who contributed—sharing via our SixContest, on FacebookInstagramTwitterTumblr or at sixwordmemoirs.com—keep on Sixing!
